Pumping instead of carrying
Water in the villages in the south of Tanzania is a scarce commodity. Many women have to walk several hours to the nearest watering place to supply themselves and their families with water. In order to provide them with the needed water close to their homes, KIUMA has been installing water pumps in various villages for a number of years. The fresh groundwater also reduces the risks of contracting diarrhoeal and stomach or intestinal diseases through polluted surface water.
