Help to build a settlement for the limekiln children

Having a roof over the head is a matter of course for almost everyone living in Germany. In India, however, many accommodations do not in the slightest qualify to be called a house. But their inhabitants do not really have a choice: they have to be satisfied with the little they’ve got. Or they take their children to work, where they have to contribute to the meagre family income, ruin their health at an early stage and never have the opportunity of going to school. Their hope is to exchange their makeshift place against a proper house one day; others, however, need their children’s contributions just to survive.

Education, however, is one of the most important conditions to ensure that children will have a better future and a better life than their parents. That is why wortundtat would like to help 750 families in Piduguralla near the limekilns to get a proper roof over their heads (see report wortundtat magazine 1/2010, page 15), where children get the space and the opportunity to learn. A start has already been made: the first of 1,150 simple houses in the new settlement are under construction. The Indian government bears the majority of the costs. Each family, however, has to make a contribution of € 150.

Make house-building your project

We want to ask your support with regarding to funding these houses. It only takes € 150 to build a house and to help a family to get their own four walls. Even a “brick” or building stone for € 10, 20, or 50 is a great help. Or get together with some partners who join you in financing “your” house. For example, collect donations in your Bible Study Group. Tell friends and members of your club about the idea. Organise a cake stall with your children’s school friends. Or if you have your own ideas – then write to us, what you have done and what your experiences were. If possible, we will publish some of your articles in the magazine or here on the webpage.

Please help us to help!

Please make a one-off donation of € 10, 20, 50 or 150 and state “House-building” as the reference.
