Wort und Tat

Watertank

1,000 donors wanted for a water tank!

80,000 litre is the capacity of the water tank, which wortundtat has recently set up Mbati. An electric pump is used to fill it with clean groundwater from a deep well. A Diesel-operated generator supplies the pump with power. From the tank, water is distributed to dispensing points, which have been set up at various locations in the village.

Women and children now only need to go a few steps to fetch water for washing or cooking. They safe a lot of time, which they can now use to do other important tasks. Before the arrival of the tank, they often had to walk for miles to get the necessary water, which they had to carry in buckets.

Apart from that, the risk of getting an infection has significantly decreased: in contrast to the surface water, which the women used to get, and which is often  infested with bacteria, the water from the tank is clean. One tank filling supplies the village with water for a few days.

The tank costs 11,900 Euro. This amounts to 5 Cent per litre tank water. Families, who until now got their water free of charge, are now happy to pay a few Cents for a 20 litre bucket of water. They are getting their water far quicker and on top of this, it is also cleaner. The income generated is sufficient for the village to finance the fuel for the generator.

There are still many places in the south of Tanzania, where dirty or polluted water is drawn from streams or  stagnant waters. wortundtat wants to help to bring about change!

In Germany, a citizen, who uses water sparingly, uses about 80 litre for washing, cleaning and doing the dishes, for using the toilet, for cooking or watering his plants. In accordance with the calculation made at the beginning for a village in the south of Tanzania, 80 litre water from the tank would cost about 12 Euro.

If we can find 1,000 people, who are willing to spend 12 Euro each, we would soon be able to build the next tank in Twendembele.

And of course, every little amount you can spare is welcome, every Cent or Euro helps a good cause.
