Pumping instead of carrying

Water in the villages in the south of Tanzania is a scarce commodity. Many women have to walk several hours to the nearest watering place to supply themselves and their families with water. KIUMA has therefore already installed pumps in four places to provide them with the necessary water not too far from their huts. In July 2009, Dr. Heinz-Horst Deichmann inaugurated 16 hand pumps in the village of Kidodoma. The fresh groundwater also reduces the risks of contracting diarrhoeal and stomach or intestinal diseases through polluted surface water.
