Teachers from the region for the region

A shortage of teachers is not only a German problem. Tanzania too has been looking for teachers for years. The Tunduru District alone has a shortage of about 450 teachers and ten to twelve secondary schools. Hardly anyone, who has lived in the richer and better developed north of the country want to go to the south to work and to live there.

wortundtat has therefore started to set up a teacher training facility - the so-called KIUMA Education Centre. Here, 120 young women and men will be trained as teachers each year. As most of the students have grown up in the region, many of them will be willing to remain in the south of the country after their graduation to gradually remedy the situation.
