School and vocational education for 14,400 children
Millions of Indian children do not learn to read and write. Many parents do not appreciate the value of education because they never experienced it themselves. Often they do not send their children to school because they are too poor: many schools require school fees, not to mention the costs for clothing, books and exercise books.
wortundtat has built five schools including all necessary equipment for these children of the poorest. In accordance with the Indian school system (nursery school to Degree College) about 14,400 pupils were taught here in 2008. They receive school material, clothing and accommodation; they get meals and medical care if required. Each school is special in its own way. In Yeleswaram, for example, a school was built for about 1,800 children who were previously forced to work in stone quarries. These children are the first of their families to escape the vicious circle of poverty and badly paid dangerous work.
Vocational training as a basis for an independent life
A state-recognized vocational training centre was set up in Chilakaluripet in 1993. Whether seamstress, car mechanic, welder, lathe operator, electrician or computer expert - they are all young people.
