Five doctors for the poor
The medical-diaconal centre Gloria offers poor people in the town of Ceadîr Lunga the opportunity to be examined and treated free of charge. In the well equipped practice rooms, Dr. Vera Trakalova is working with tireless devotion. The equipment she uses is mainly second-hand and comes from Germany - among them an ECG device, a colonoscopy device and various ultrasound devices. Apart from the cardiologist, an internist, a family GP, and an expert for ultrasound examinations are making their knowhow and their manpower available for treating the patients in part-time work. The local dentist was persuaded at the end of 2009 to dedicate a few hours of his working week to the centre. The dental equipment had been donated by a colleague in Germany. It was connected in 2010.
Sick people, for whom the way to the centre is too far, are visited and treated at home. To cope with the long distances, the helpers use the various vehicles that wortundtat has brought to the Republic of Moldova over the past years.
The public hospital of the town is also able to benefit from the transport of various devices and hospital beds. An X-Ray machine and a mammography device for breast screening were not allowed into the country at the end of 2009: the Moldavian customs duty refused entry to both machines. However, it has been possible to obtain the required import licenses in spring 2010.
