Hellenic Ministries in Greece

wortundtat has been supporting the Greek Christian organisation Hellenic Ministries in Greece for 30 years. The organisation is mainly concerned with helping refugees, for example from Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan or Somalia. As a Mediterranean neighbour, Greece is the destination of many needy people who come from Africa or East European countries in order to find a new and more prosperous home in Central Europe.

„Hellenic Ministries“ has set up a point of contact for refugees at the heart of the Greek capital Athens. Here, they can have a hot shower once a week and wash their clothes and receive a warm meal. Some are also provided with

In Porto Astro - north of Athens by the Mediterranean coast - „Hellenic Ministries“ has built a leisure camp. The grounds were bought with the assistance of wortundtat in 1987. Here „Hellenic Ministres“ holds regular Bible Retreats in particular for young people from Greece or abroad. Although the Word of God takes centre stage, water sports are also playing their part. In the summer of 2008, ten refugee families from Afghanistan with their 25 children between three months and 18 years were able to spend a free retreat here. Time to breathe a sigh of relief, to try to come to terms with their trauma triggered by the war in Afghanistan and their escape and to get a new perspective for their life with the World of God.

Spreading the Gospel is very close to the hearts of the staff of „Hellenic Ministires“: more and more evangelisations are taking place in the north of Greece. After the great fires in the south in 2007, members of staff have distributed about 40,000 Bibles to the victims, who thanked them with smiling faces. Another 120,000 Bibles will be distributed in 2009.
